Update on Bristyn/ Bristyn's Surgery

This picture was taken on October 9, 2009. While I was in California with the kids, Bristyn woke up one morning with a droopy eyelid, in getting it taken care of we ended up in the hospital for a couple of days. Ryan flew in on Thursday after he found out that we had been admitted to the hospital. Both of Bristyn's Grandmas and her Great Grandma were able to come see us in the hospital and it sure was nice to have them come. The first step was to order a full-body MRI. A cyst was found in the eye area. Next was to be a CT Scan that could take closer pictures of the cyst. After about a bazillion times trying to get an IV, we went downstairs to have the CT done. The syringe, with iodine (for contrast to get better images), was way bigger than the IV line could handle. It was a no go- back upstairs to try for another IV. Long story short this mom had had more than she could handle, it was agreed that Bristyn was not in immediate danger, and we were discharged with orders to follow up with an ophthalmologist and get a CT scan ordered. We were discharged on Saturday, drove home Sunday, met with the ophthalmologist on Tuesday, and the CT scan was scheduled for Nov. 4th. From there we met with the oculoplastic surgeon and it was determined that the cyst needed to be removed. That surgery happened this morning. A HUGE, VERY BIG thank you to my visiting teachers for keeping my other children overnight for us, thanks Joyce and Tami- I love you! Everything went well, Bristyn is recovering fine and by the end of the day the thing that she was most upset about is that Ryan and I would not let her run around wherever she wanted to go. She was talking and laughing and eating, such a relief! These pictures are very shocking- it is important to note that when she recovers fully you will hardly be able to notice the scar from her incision as it is in the crease of her eyelid.
This picture was taken about 10:30 this morning when we first got home.

These two were taken about 6:30 tonight just before bed.

I am so glad things went well! What a relief. I hope it continues down that path & she heals up nicely...those pictures ARE shocking. You should get a picture of Bristyn with Pierce. His eye looks pretty similar right now.
